A VIB-KU Leuven Collaboration to Advance Novel Breast Cancer Therapies

Another great achievement of Diether and the VIB.
This is an important milestone in an exciting new strategic partnership between VIB and myNEO Therapeutics bringing novel breast cancer drugs to clinical stage development!

VIB-KU Leuven Center of Cancer biology:
Great science news this week! Our Science Director Diether Lambrechts has been awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Proof of Concept Grant to advance the development of an off-the-shelf vaccine for triple-negative breast cancer.

mRNA-based vaccines have been shown to elicit robust anti-tumor responses across multiple types of cancer when combined with immune checkpoint therapy. However, certain scientific and technological challenges still need to be addressed to improve patients’ response to treatment and reduce the risk of recurrence.

Through the now ERC-funded TWISTAR project, Diether and his team will work in partnership with myNEO Therapeutics to overcome some of these limitations. The project aims to validate shared tumor antigens from the “dark genome”, which currently represents an untapped source of immunogenic targets.

Congratulations on this achievement, Diether! We’re looking forward to following the progress of this project.
